3D Printing Cost Calculator

Estimate your printing costs and explore a selling price based on your own assumptions.

How to use this calculator

  1. 1
    Check your slicer

Enter filament weight (including supports) and estimated print time per item.

  2. 2
    Set your costs

Choose a currency, enter your local material price and review the prefilled Advanced costs.

  3. 3
    Review the estimate

Set your margin and fees, then compare the estimated selling price with actual market prices.

Before you begin: All values are editable. The prefilled numbers are examples, not verified market averages. Advanced costs are included even when the panel is closed. Changing currency changes the symbol only; it does not convert amounts.

How is the 3D printing price calculated?

The tool estimates production cost from material, machine wear, electricity, labor, and packaging or other per-item expenses. It then calculates a selling price intended to cover marketplace percentage fees and your chosen profit margin. The estimate updates as you edit the inputs.

See formulas and key assumptions
  • Material: Filament weight in grams ÷ 1,000 × filament price per kilogram.
  • Machine: Estimated print hours × machine wear cost per hour.
  • Electricity: Printer power in watts ÷ 1,000 × print hours × cost per kWh.
  • Failed prints: Material, machine wear and electricity are divided by (1 − failure rate). This assumes a failed print uses as much of those resources as a complete print and is reprinted; additional labor for failures is not modeled.
  • Labor: (Setup minutes per batch ÷ quantity + finishing minutes per item) ÷ 60 × hourly labor rate.
  • Unit cost: Sum of adjusted material, machine, electricity, labor and packaging/other costs.
  • Selling price before tax: Unit cost ÷ (1 − target margin − marketplace fee), where percentages are expressed as decimals. The percentage fee is assumed to apply to the pre-tax selling price.
  • Displayed price: Selling price before tax × (1 + VAT or sales tax rate). Estimated profit is calculated after the marketplace fee but before income tax.

Margin vs. markup: A 30% target profit margin means a target profit of 30% of the pre-tax selling price after the modeled marketplace fee, not a 30% markup on cost.

Limitations and disclaimer

Results are indicative estimates for planning and comparison, not binding quotes or guaranteed profits. Real costs and selling prices vary with printer efficiency, support and purge material, partially failed prints, depreciation, maintenance, labor, demand and your business model. Shipping, returns, advertising, fixed payment fees, customs duties, income tax and other overhead are not calculated separately; include relevant costs in your inputs where appropriate. Verify platform fees and applicable tax rules before using the result to quote customers or set retail prices.
